Some minor stuff

1) New title. Awesome.
2) Added an adult content warning, just in case.

Okay, back to your regularly scheduled slacking off.

Really Stupid Anime Girl Figures

Okay, so anyone who knows me knows I like anime and video game figures.
I don't like them all, though. See, figures made for visual novels are a mixed bag. They're either really cute/pretty, or horribly ick. Okay, so I'm exaggerating a little. Most of them are panty shots of 16-year-olds who look 10. But, there's quite a bit of...dumbfounding ones. Let's have a look!

Note: These are all pretty much NWS, so I'll just be linking the pages. Click at your own risk (to your sanity).

You know, I'm sure not wearing panties while on the job is a health hazard.

I like how she's masturbating in mid-air.

Everyone knows I hate AIR's art style.

:downs:

Why do lolis always have gigantic bows on their costumes?

No, seriously, lay off the bows and ribbons for once.

You know, for all the digs Naruto's bright orange costume gets, at least it stays up.

I don't know what bothers me more, the fact that this isn't enough clothing to be called an outfit, or how the hell that pumpkin stays up there.

...You have got to be kidding.

...They aren't, are they?

...Okay, stop that, it's not funny.

One time, at Loli Camp...

What's the point of a see-through skirt and bra? The perverts are just going to take them off, anyway.

That is the biggest, dumbest hat ever.

and finally...

Another case of You Have Got to be Joking.

That's all for now! See you...uh...sometime, I guess. :/

Franzie's current manga addictions

While I'm slogging through Butlers (and art school), I'll just talk about the manga I've been reading lately.

7 Seeds by Tamura Yumi

Plot: A group of people wake up on a sinking boat and find that they're thousands, possibly millions of years in the future after a meteorite destroyed human civilization.

Why I like it: It's a shoujo manga, but it's very different from many shoujo manga out there now. Hell, it's even different from ones that have sci-fi elements. The setting is vastly different and it's effective in making you feel how cold, wet, and uncomfortable the main characters are. It's very unsettleing when they find the remnants of 21st century Japan, such as when Summer Group B finds the skeletons of people that were buried under a volcanic eruption. Or when Hana sees the decaying remains of Shinjuku and remembers a date with her boyfriend, Arashi, who she believes is long dead. The fate of Nobara, one of the hundreds of Japanese children created to potentially survive the impact event, is also very heartbreaking.

Before, I described the series as a combination of Survivor and Fist of the North Star without martial arts and reality show elements. However, while that's partially true, I find that it's more like The Drifting Classroom (a manga about a school that's transported to the distant future and the horrible events that follow).

Where I am now: The scanlation is only on chapter 39 at the moment. Hopefully, more chapters will be released soon.

Uwasa no Midori-kun
by Ikeyamada Go

Plot: Midori is a 15-year-old girl who loves soccer (and the guy who taught it to her three years before, Tsukasa). When Tsukasa visits her home island again after three years, they end up having sex on the beach. However, Midori finds out that Tsukasa only had sex with her not because he loves her, but because he made a bet. Angry, Midori decides that she's going to defeat Tsukasa with the power of soccer. The only way she can do that, however, is disguise herself and enroll in a boys-only school in Tokyo...

Why I Like It: I'm not normally into sports manga, but this one caught my eye and I'm glad it did. It's very sweet and unlike other shoujo heroines, Midori tries to take a stand against Tsukasa when he tries to make the moves on her again (although he realized that he really does love her this time, really!). However, she does face the problem is being attracted to two different guys. Kazuma, who genuinely cares about Midori and her well-being, I feel is the much better choice than Tsukasa, who is a clingy jerkass who's very possessive of Midori. And while she does care about both of them, I feel she has much better chemistry with Kazuma.
...Okay, it's not often I go into what manga character belongs with who. I sometimes like to think I'm over shipping and I go ahead and do it anyway. *shrug*

Where I am now: The scanlation is only up to chapter 18 so far. Apparently, after chapter 20, the manga will be handed to a new scanlation group. Hopefully, they'll be as good as this one is.

Booored

So, I got Butlers and its Night Mode expansion pack a while back. I started it, but I keep forgetting to play it. :/

Anyway, I've been swamped with art school assignments lately. Thumbnails thumbnails thumbnails! I hate thumbnails.

I had to make a cooking video for my public speaking class and it's 48 minutes long! I don't think I sound like myself, but I guess it turned out alright. :/

Well, I'll try and play more of Butlers. Maybe today.

Game Review: Love☆Drops ~みらくる同居物語~

Love☆Drops ~みらくる同居物語~ (Miracle Coexistance Legend)
Company: Sugar Beans
Official
Getchu

Story (in a nutshell): Kanata is a 17-year-old high school student who lives in a mansion alone. Because of ~magic~, three bishonen from another magical land are brought to her house. Oh, and Satan is being a dick.

Characters:

Kanata is the heroine. Her parents are either dead or they work overseas (any reason why they aren't around). You can rename her every time you start a new game.

Floria is one of the bishonen that lives in your house. He's a siren and spends a lot of time at the docks. He's the "calm and mature" bishonen of the group. However, he's not a very exciting character.

Roy the wolf-boy is another houseguest. He's basically a super robot pilot who SHOUTS ALL THE TIME!

Hugo is yet another houseguest and a vampire. The best part: he doesn't sparkle! He has a thing for sweets.

Tomoya is the Obligatory Childhood Friend character and spends most of the time in the library and the book store.

Hijiri is the underclassman who has a big crush on Kanata. He slouches a lot and is rather annoying. There's a girl in his class who has a crush on him and is obviously evil.

Kanade is the Obiligatory Bad Boy character. He's a year older than Kanata and is Mikoto's older brother.

Mikoto is Kanata's best friend and the only other girl in the game (besides the disembodied voice of Kanata's mother). She's rather protective of Kanata.

Cifer is the bonus character. YOU CAN DATE SATAN, GUYS!

Gameplay: When you first play the game, you get a legnthy intro that introduces most of the characters. Luckily, you only have to go through it once. The next time you start a new game, you skip right to playing.
The first half of the game is a scheduele. You have to pick two places to go and you'll hopefully run into the bishie you want. If there's a star next to the location, that means there's someone to talk to. Every time you talk to somone, you have to make a choice about what to tell them. Making the right one increases their love meter.
Every Friday, you get the option of going on a date with any of the guys. If you pick one, you spend that weekend hanging out with your bishonen. You also have to make one choice of what to say for the weekend.
There is a time limit to winning over the guy you want. You have until October 26th, the night of the school Halloween party to fill your guy's love meter.
It's also a good idea to try and win over two guys in one playthrough so that you can get four endings easily.

The second half of the game has no schedueleing. Instead, you just progress through the story and make choices. All of the bishies (except for Cifer) have two endings to obtain, both of them having CGs at the end. The good ending is where Kanata and her bishonen stay happily together, while in the bad endings, Kanata's boyfriend dies and she ends up with her second choice. Throughout the second half of the game, the designated second choice guy will try and convince Kanata to break up with her boyfriend. You usually get the bad endings when Kanata chooses to listen to the other guy.

The way to get Cifer is a bit different than normally (he is a bonus character, after all). On certain days, Cifer will be at the docks (there won't be a star next to the location, though). He'll run away from Kanata when she tries to talk to him. You also have to choose to not go on dates for the weekend.

As for the sex scenes, they're very modest. You only really see Kanata's boobs. The only time you see anything else is during one of Hugo's sex scenes, but there's no penetration or anything fetishy. It's vastly different from sex scenes in bishojo games, which are usually very explicit and can even be downright disgusting when it comes to fluids. There is only one rape scene, and it's during Cifer's path (which is justifiable, I guess :/). All of the other H-scenes are consentual. You have the option to turn the H-scenes off, but you'll miss a lot of CGs if you do so.

Bonus Things: CG Gallery - view the CGs from the game
Music Player - listen to the game's music
Scene Replay - watch the sex scenes and endings

Overall: Love Drops was the first otome game I've played. It's very sweet and even though the schedueling can get tedious, it's worth it in the end.
4.5/5

Other notes: Love Drops was ported to the PS2 with the H-scenes removed. However, it has one new character and many new CGs.

My Thoughts on Fansubs

Wow, something that's not hentai this time. :/

So, while browsing through AnimeNation's Ask John section of their blog, I kept reading replies from other readers blaming the problems of the US's anime industry on solely fansubbers. Why? Because it's stealing, of course! :D

Personally, I think fansubbing has its place in the anime fandom. I mean, let's face it. Some anime is not going to come to the US for whatever reason. Macross 7 has all of those liscening issues, Sailor Moon Sailor Stars will never be up for liscensing, and 70s and 80s anime isn't popular amoungst most of today's anime fans, who just want the latest series.
If it wasn't for fansubs, I wouldn't have become a fan of Cutie Honey and I would have never seen Kanashimi no Belladonna. And fansubs are what got anime like Haruhi Suzumiya and Rozen Maiden liscensed in the US.

Of course, I do draw the line on what anime to download. Usually, I choose anime that has not been liscened or is out of print in the US. I like a lot of 70s and 80s anime, and believe me, not very much of it is going to come to the US anytime soon. In these cases, fansubs are my only option, especially since I don't have a credit card and don't live in Japan.
Personally, I'm not going to download an anime that is liscened in the US and is easy to find. I'll either buy it (if I ever have the cash) or I'll rent it from/watch it on Netflix.
However, I know not everyone subscribes to this view. A lot of anime fans will just find a way to download liscened anime anyway. Why? Because it's free.

One of the main reasons why anime sales in the US are going down is because of the prices. Anime and manga are expensive. Most manga are $9.99 a pop, sometimes more. Anime DVDs are usually $20+. Compare that to most Hollywood, or even foreign movies, which are usually $10-20. And it doesn't help that a majority of anime fans in the US are teenagers who either work jobs that don't pay very much or don't have jobs at all.
So, what can they do? They can either wait until they get some cash or they can watch it on a streaming site or they can download it. And since many teenagers are impatient, they aren't going to do the first option.
For some reason, the viewing methods of female and male anime fans seems to differ. Most female anime fans I know are happy watching their favorite anime on YouTube or Veoh. The male fans, however, prefer to go to torrent sites and download anime, whether it's liscened or not. In fact, I have one friend who refuses to buy -any- anime DVDs at all and just pirates everything (some of you will know who I'm talking about). His reason? He doesn't want to spend the money. This is ridiculous, coming from him, since he has a credit card and plenty of money. He just doesn't want to spend money on -anything-.

A lot of anti-fansubbers also blame Crunchyroll for contributing to the American anime industry's downfall. A lot of them are especially angry about Crunchyroll now getting the OK from Toei and other companies to stream their anime.
Before, Crunchyroll only streamed fansubs. They would take the fansubs down -only- if the fansubbing group or the anime's liscenser complained. In a way, their fansub streaming was good, since they showed a lot of anime unliscened in the US (except for Toei-owned anime, as they are very stingy about their liscenes) and fansubs of older anime.
But now, Crunchyroll has done a complete heel face turn. Anti-fansubbers and even Crunchyroll members have called out the owners of the site as being hypocrites.
I remember reading one topic on their forum about the switch and one of the members called out one of the site's owners. The member said that it was hypocrisy and greed, that the owners are now claiming to be anti-fansub just to pander to the companies. The owner denied this, claiming that while he made fansubs back in the early days of American anime fandom, he now thinks fansubs are immoral.
However, while I think anti-fansubbers make themselves look like spectacular jackasses when it comes to arguing about fansubs, I think they have it right this time.
Why would the owners of a site that hosted many fansubs suddenly claim to hate fansubs? It's not hard to figure out, really.

Anyway, I'll continue this topic later, as it's 6AM and I need to get some sleep.

WTF Hentai Game of the Week #3

Haven't done one of these in a while.

Boku no Mushikago (My Insect Cage)
Release Date: March 2003
Company: Arkham
Getchu
Official site

Story: The hero is a douchebag who likes to tie up girls and rape them.
Comments: That's right, folks! Another game where you tie girls up and humiliate them! Yaay! The characters are pretty average, except for the token loli and the magical girl with stupid hair.
See? Stupid.
However, that's not the weird part.
Why is it weird?: Apparently, the hero forces the girls to have sex with animals. And by animals, I mean snakes and crabs. Yes, crabs.
Would I play this?: I'm curious about how sex with a crab would work.
